Welcome to Ito's White Tiger Dojo!

Ito's White Tiger Dojo has been offering classes and private instruction in the martial arts since 1979. Ito's White Tiger Dojo is a family owned martial arts studio focused on the discipline of the mind, body and spirit.

Ito's WhiteTiger offers classes in Kempo Karate, Tai Chi and Weapons, including Jo/Staff, Escrima, Katana, and Broadsword. Kick boxing conditioning classes are also available. We are open 6 days a week with flexible hours and offer private, semi-private, group or special needs classes in addition to our regularly scheduled classes. Instruction available for all ages and levels of experience. Foundation of instruction is based on discipline of the mind, body and spirit while learning fitness, self defense, and physical conditioning. For the children, this helps develop confidence, respect and self-esteem. The appropriate mix of martial arts and martial exercises enable the children to develop these attributes to succeed in life as adults. Adults, whether beginner or experienced in other studies, will be challenged by Mr. Ito's philosophies and conceptual studies that go back thousands of years to the historical records of China and India.

Kosho Shorei Ryu History

This ancient art was founded in 1235 AD by a monk who, according to legend, meditated under an old pine tree and discovered the meaning of true self-defense. Utilizing proper strategies, the monk could make an attacker undo his own attack in such a way that allowed for both the attacker and defender to remain uninjured. The monk chose a name for this art to reflect its spirit and origins. Hence, Kosho Shorei Ryu, which means "Old Pine Tree School of Encouragement," was developed.

The 21st descendant of Kosho Shorei Ryu, James (Masayoshi) Mitose, moved to Hawaii in 1936 and taught his art from 1942 until 1946. It is from these early teachings that much of what’s known today as Kempo has developed.

I was awarded the rank of Renshi Ryoku (6th) Dan at Lihue, Hawaii by Hanshi Paul Yamaguchi, the Head of Kosho Shorei Shin-Shing Ryu. This certificate includes his personal seal (chalk/stamp).
